This is a health & fitness challenge designed to increase or maintain your current state of fitness. By joining our “community”, you will continue to receive the encouragement and incentive through the summer before classes resume this fall. You will be doing daily or weekly activities focused on fitness and good nutrition. This 8-week challenge will make you think about your lifestyle and help you make small corrections in order to help you improve your health.
Summer Strong is a multi-activity challenge consisting a mix of daily activities as well as a unique weekly challenge. This challenge is different than a specific, one-activity challenge such as a weight loss, walking activity, etc. It does involve some of these specific activities but as part of a weekly challenge. For the most part you simply accomplish the task; either yes or no did you complete the task? This is a good dynamic for your own personal accountability. Again, this consistent behavioral reinforcement will help you live a healthier lifestyle now and beyond the challenge.
What is challenge runner? Its primarily a platform that has main 3 purposes:
- It is data collection tool*
- It is a leader board
- It is a message board
*As a data collection tool you are posting each week the accomplishment of the task, for example ticking a yes or no, or selecting a 1,2, or 3 on a certain activity for the benefit of the challenge administrators, Denise & Scott. Its a collective way to obtain the activity performance from each individual so we can post on the weekly leader board your status. It is part of the challenge. You are competing both with yourself (for process improvement) and against others for weekly and end of challenge grand prize. Each answer to the challenge activity represents a certain amount of points. They are factored in a spreadsheet (part of the administrators job) and then reported back on the leader board.
What challenge runner is not. It is not your personal data collection system. We suggest you get a journal or notebook and post daily whatever you want, for example what activity you did today, how hard or easy was it, your thoughts, what motivates you or not etc. The activity journal is a great tool that you can look back on for insight. If you do not want to go to the extent of using a journal, that is totally fine. as well. Having a journal also will help you post on the challenger runner message board (if you wish to use it) or on the Facebook group page. Again, whatever you are comfortable with.
